Step 11/13 Tips for smart lighting and motion sensor Automation

Lighting and motion sensor is a combination unlike no other as these two products complement each other’s features. Once you link your lights with one or more motion sensors, you will notice the immediate upgrade within your living space.

Essentially this Automation will ensure that your lights work hands-free. Thus, forget about touching the light switch because it will no longer be necessary. First set up the Automation Condition:

1. Within Smart Program choose When device status changes
2. Select your motion sensor
3. Select Motion detection
4. Put the Switch On

These steps ensure that the sensor is the main trigger for this Automation.

Moving forward choose the lighting device that will be triggered with movement:

5. Choose Run the device task
6. Select the lighting device
7. Adjust the smart Functions

You can repeat these steps to add as many lighting devices as you want.

Choose the specific settings for the specific lighting device:

10. Set up the Brightness level
9. Adjust the Colour Temperature
11. Set up lights working Time

Here you can get creative with the colours, brightness and tones, to create your desired environment.

Add additional Condition for a more precise Automation, thus making sure that the light is off before it is turned back on:

12. Select the “+” and choose When device status changes
13. Select the same lighting device
14. Choose Switch
15. Put the Switch Off

Finally, adjust the Automation design:

16. Adjust to All Conditions Are Met
17. Adjust the Name, Style and Effective Period

These steps are the foundation for creating motion sensor lighting. You can further customize and adjust the settings to fit your needs.

When you are combining lights with motion sensors, we recommend putting the same lighting device within the Condition. When you select the light and set the switch Off, it will ensure that the light can only turn On if it was turned Off in the first place. The trick is to change to All Conditions Are Met, which means that the Automation will only start working when both a motion has been detected, and the light is Off. As a result, the motion sensor will not try to activate the light, making the Automation more effective.

On the contrary, Any Condition is Met will start the Automation if at least one of the devices is triggered.

How and where you use this combination is up to you, as there are endless options to choose from. Here we will give you some inspirational ideas and solutions that you can recreate in your home.

The most common use for this combination is to guide you through the nighttime by providing light when moving from one room to another. Because you can completely customize the schedule, you can make sure that this Automation works only when it is dark outside. Midnight trips around the house will become that much safer once the lights in the hallway turn on once you have started moving. Just put the sensor in an optimal position to see the following steps every time you are taking the stairs. If there are any pets freely running around your home, we would advise setting the motion sensor a little bit higher so that they cannot accidentally trigger the lights. When you are placing sensors around your home, it’s best to keep in mind this factor.

If you have a garage, then you know the hustle of getting out of the car in the dark once you have parked your car. That is a minor issue that can be adjusted with the help of this combination. Once your car is starting to make its way into the garage, the motion sensor will recognize the motion and automatically illuminate the space.
